Summative Evaluation
The summative evaluation was successfully performed as a field trial by one evaluator.
1. What was the purpose of the evaluation session? The purpose of this summative evaluation was to find out if there were additional changes needed to the training site and if the training should be implemented for the Technology Cadre teachers.
2. Who was involved in the session? What is his/her profile? The participating evaluator was a veteran teacher who has introductory technology experience. He has expressed interest with integrating technology into his classroom instruction but has additional extracurricular duties that do not allow him to participate in professional development afterschool.
3. Where did the session take place? I requested that he attempt to use the training site in the district school bus which is equipped with WiFi since he mentioned that is the location he does the most of his internet use while in transit from one game to the next.
4. What were the results? The results were promising to implement the digital badge site as an accessible training site for teachers to access. The evaluator looked at the goal statement and after going through the Keynote training module he felt that the training solution is congruent to the goal. The teachers have all of the resources they need to complete the different sections of training. There are no additional software program needed and the training site is accessible on mobile devices. This will be the primary tool for the majority of teachers. The evaluator considered the training solution to be easy to follow. He was able to complete the Keynote training and is eager to implement the instructional technology resource immediately. He began practicing on his iPad while he was traveling to a game afterschool. He realized that he did not have to carry around his laptop to create his presentation on Microsoft PowerPoint any longer.
5. What was your reaction to the results? My summative evaluation reaction is that I am please with the result. The evaluator did not provide feedback that required changes but I feel that I should include an advanced user to the summative evaluation. I would like to receive feedback from that type of user's perspective.
6. What was your action to the results? I will be recruiting one additional summative evaluator that has an advanced technology base to provide his feedback.
Conclusion
Considering the feedback the training solution is ready to implement among the Technology Cadre teachers. Overall I feel that the digital badge site will create a culture of eagerness to communicate ideas in which teachers are integrating technology in their classrooms. The visual badges outside of the teacher's doors will serve as a testament to their efforts and will also serve as a way to recognize the educational technology practices they are implementing.
